Privacy Policy

1. What we collect
Account: first name, email, encrypted password, age, gender, who you’re attracted to, and your area. Profile: your photos, your verification selfie, and any details you choose to add (height, job, education, drinking, exercise, a line about you) and dealbreakers (children, smoking, what you’re looking for, long distance). Activity: your daily answers, matches, messages and date plans, and whether the “are you sure?” prompt was shown before a message you sent. Safety: reports you make, reports made about you, ban decisions and appeals, and your DateMates (the names and contact details you provide). Technical: device type and app version, used for fixing problems.
2. What we use it for
To run the matching (your answers and dealbreakers are compared with other users’); to show your profile to your matches; to deliver messages; to power safety features (your DateMate receives your first name, your date venue and time when you choose to share them, and — only if you turn it on — your live location for up to 24 hours); to review reports and enforce our Terms, including keeping banned people off TEN; and to improve the Service.
3. Sensitive information
Your gender and who you’re attracted to can reveal your sexual orientation, which the law treats as special category data. We use it only to find your matches and show it only to people you match with, and we process it with your explicit consent, which you give when you enter it at signup. You can change it at any time in Settings → Edit profile, or withdraw consent by deleting your account.
4. What we never do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not show your profile to anyone except people you have matched with. Your answers are only ever used for matching — they are not shared publicly. Your verification selfie is never shown to other users; it is seen only by the person at TEN who checks it against your photos, and by a reviewer looking into a report about your account.
5. Reports
If you report someone, we never tell them it was you. If someone reports you, a person at TEN reads the conversation between you and looks at your profile as it was when the report was made. We may share relevant information with the police or other authorities where the law requires it, or where it is needed to protect someone from serious harm.
6. Where your data lives
Your data is stored with Supabase, our database provider, on servers in Canada (Central region). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is protected by row-level security: users can only ever access their own data and the profiles of people they are currently matched with. Reports and ban records cannot be accessed by any user.
7. How long we keep it
Your data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, answers, matches, messages and DateMates are permanently deleted straight away, with two exceptions kept for safety. First, if a conversation you were in was reported, the copy of it taken for that report is kept for up to 2 years after the report is decided. Second, if your account was banned, a record of the ban is kept for as long as the ban lasts, so that it cannot simply be evaded. Appeals are kept for up to 2 years after they are decided. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account; use Settings → Delete account.
8. Your rights
You can access and correct your data in the app at any time. You have the right to request a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how it is used, and to withdraw consent. Where a request covers a report, we will not reveal who made it. To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app tools or contact us at the address below. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (the ICO in the UK, the OPC in Canada, or the CAI in Quebec).
9. Sharing with other users
When you match with someone, they can see your first name, age, area, photos, any profile details you added, your match score, and how your answers compared on that day’s questions. When a match ends, they can no longer see your profile or your conversation. They can never see your email, exact location or contact details unless you share them yourself.
10. Children
TEN is strictly for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Accounts found to belong to anyone under 18 are banned, and where an adult has behaved inappropriately towards them, we may report it to the police.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this policy and notify you in the app before the changes take effect.
